The Blues Excuse draws at least part of its inspiration from the earliest
days of the blues when times were
much tougher than they are now.
As our photo of Noel's grandmother (above) shows, secretaries in those
early days had to turn up to the office, pull out a draw and pretend
that they had a typewriter.
Why? Because typewriters hadn't been invented yet!
In tough circumstances like these it's not surprising that drinking hard
liquor and hanging out at the docks to meet sailors was such a
popular leisure pastime in those bygone days....
